Child Custody Mediation
During any divorce case where children are involved, the case becomes a battle. Mediation is available for those parents who are unable to come to an agreement about the child. The mediator is not there to make a decision or to give the judge any information that can be used for the decision. The parents are the ones who will make the decision(as long as they can come to an agreement), and the mediator is just there to be a third party listener. There will be no reprimanding if one of the parents disagree with the other. Speaking your mind and having your own opinions, is exactly what mediation is about.
The mediators job is to help both parents feel secure and safe in the presence of one another. Only trained individuals are registered as a family mediator. They are educated to improve understanding through families by enforcing communication. The basic idea behind the mediation, is that if the parents begin to understand each other better, then they will be able to come to an agreement without any arguments. During the mediation, both parents can communicate what they feel is best for the child. The parents can also learn how to continue with financial situations so that the child will be taken care of. While mediation does focus on the disagreements between the parents, the mediation is mostly focused with the child’s future and what plans can be enforced to help the child.
Mediation helps both parents come to an agreement, which would not be likely with the help of lawyers. There are also issues that can be addressed safely in the presence of the mediator, that could not be spoken of in front of a lawyer or judge. The process of mediation also keeps the parents from having to spend money on court costs and fees to their lawyers. Taxpayers are also grateful, because one less court case is more money spent on other issues. Besides financial gain, mediation also helps the parents keep a good relationship for the benefit of the child. Even though the marriage is over, the parents must remember that the child still exists and that they will be parents for the rest of their lives. Having a bad relationship can not only hurt them, but their child’s happiness as well. Because children learn from their parents, it is important to set good examples.
